Dr Hermine von Bentheim began working in the children's clinic in April 1941, before the formal inauguration of the Reichsuniversität Straßburg. She was one of the first German medical assistants to be employed in the clinic. She initially held the role of Verwalter einer wissenschaftlichen Assistentenstelle, but in May 1942 she was promoted to Wissenschaftlicher Assistentin and then Assistenzärztin in August 1942. She remained in this role until November 1944. In 1947 she stated that she did not get on well with Dr Hofmeier, as she believed he was much harder on her than the Alsatian assistants [1].
