In November 1943 he joined the Kinderklinik in the Reichsuniversität Straßburg in the role of Wissenschaftliche Assistent, and this contract was until 1945. He did not formally join any political party and claimed to be apolitical, although he was a member of the Germanic SS from 1942 (a political and paramilitary organisations established in occupied North West Europe under the supervision of the SS).
