Marlene finished school in 1936 and began studying medicine in 1936. She became a member of the NSDStB in 1940 during her medical studies in Strasbourg. In 1941 she spent a term in Heidelberg University. Marlene became a pflichtassistentin at the Kinderklinik in the Reichsuniversität Straßburg in 1941. She was then employed as Verwalterin einer wissenschaftlichen Assistentenstelle at the Kinderklinik of the Reichsuniversität Straßburg from 1 November 1943.
